Paralympic Education Program

Location:

National, AUS

Description:

Paralympics Australia’s Paralympic Education Program (PEP), presented by Australian Beef, uses the Paralympic Games to promote inclusion of people with a disability and challenge students’ perceptions towards disability. It also empowers students overcome their own personal challenges by applying the Paralympic values of determination, inspiration, courage, and equality.

The program includes online resources for teachers and students which are all linked to the Australian Curriculum, along with a school visit program which sees Paralympians visiting schools around the country and running practical Para-sport demonstrations for students.

The core goals of the program are:

  • To connect teachers and school students to the Paralympic movement, Para-sports and Para-athletes through our online lesson plans and resources.
  • To promote inclusion and celebrate diversity through a school visit program.
  • To connect children with disability to sporting opportunities.

The Role of JMWF:

Financial support from the John and Myriam Wylie Foundation has meant that we have been able to conduct more school visits around the country and increase the reach of our program
